I played tennis in high school (way back when) and when my son took an interest in tennis a couple years back, I fully supported it.  Of course, my first reaction was to go to Big 5 and get him a “good” racquet.  We did this and it worked fine until he made the varsity tennis team (his first year) and started to compare gear with the other players.  At this point I realized that Big 5 wasn’t cutting it for the serious tennis player.

If we do not support our local shops, they will go away and we won’t have any.

We all know about the large online tennis shops such as Tennis Warehouse, Tennis Express, and Midwest Sports, but I am from the school of thought that I want support local businesses first and then if I cannot find what I need, then I will go online.  Stating the obvious here, but if we don’t support the shops in our communities, they will go away and we won’t have any.  There is also no replacement for having someone available to ask questions and interact with in person.  The local shops will usually match online prices too, so why not?

Tennis Town is the “go-to” store in Sacramento.

I hit the Internet and found the tennis shops in town and ultimately settled on Tennis Town as my “go-to” store.  It was the customer service and willingness to put up with my newbie questions as I tried to catch up on 25 years of technology advancements that won me over.  They also have two locations that work for me, Fair Oaks, and Roseville.  The other tennis shop in the area is Courtside.  To be fair, they seem like good guys and have a decent store too, but my initial experience with Tennis Town gave them the edge for me.
