A couple years ago we (the siblings) decided to have an annual family get-together that coincides with our Mother’s birthday in White Rock, NM.
Over the years our family has been spread out with myself and my brother being in the Army, traveling all over the world, and my sister and mom moving from Wisconsin to New Mexico. In my mother’s case, moving from Wisconsin to New Mexico, back to Wisconsin, and then settling in New Mexico again. Needless to say it had been nearly impossible for all of us to get together in one place for years. I think we went almost 20 years before we were phyiscally in the same location, in Rhinelander, WI. This will be the third year in a row that we have traveled to New Mexico for our mother’s birthday!
My brother lives in Kentucky, and I live in California. White Rock, NM is almost and equal distance on the road for us. Typically this takes 2 decent days of driving, or one seriously tiring day of hard driving. I personally love being on the road and traveling, lots of time to clear the mind of the work routine and just relax again.
Once we get there we visit (or course), eat well, and go on a couple outings. With Covid-19 this year, not sure we will be doing a lot of outings, so we will have plenty of time to just hang out and relax. Gives me time to read, since I want to do this, but all the distractions at home prevent me from doing this. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish a book or two while I’m there. My son is staying home to take care of the animals and watch the house, so it’s just me and the wife.
Not sure of any side trips this time around. I always wanted to go the the crater off I-40, but then when I see it, I just want to keep going to get home faster. Last year I stopped in Winslow, Arizona to stand on a corner. That was fun! 🙂 Yeah, I bought the T-Shirt too. Vegas seemed like a good idea the first time, but I get bored there. That must mean I’m old, just not my scene anymore. Maybe take in a show, but besides that, the rest is just ehhhh.
Looking forwards to this trip and hope I have something to write about when I return.
